APC postpones national convention, schedules zonal congresses
All Progressives Congress on Monday cancelled its national convention scheduled for SaryrSat February 26, 2022.
APC instead fixed zonal congresses for Saturday March 26, 2022.
These were contained in a letter to the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yaqub, and addressed by the Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, and Secretary, Dr. John Akpanudoedehe.
The party chieftains did not offer any reason for the cancellation of the national convention.
There had been fears that the national convention would not hold as a result of the crises in many state chapters of the party.
Also, the party’s leaders could not reach a consensus on whether to back President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice for national chairman, former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura.
In fact, Buhari cancelled a meeting with governors elected on the platform earlier scheduled for last week and travelled to Brussels, Belgium for a European Union – Africa summit.
The meeting was rescheduled to Tuesday.
