Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Monday warned that the ban on Okada and tricycles by the Lagos State Government would increase unemployment and crime
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, the minister said he believed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State would have put these into consideration before putting up the ban.
Amaechi said the Federal Government was working in a total implementation of the 25-year transport policy and noted that it was not bothered about the high cost of subsidising tail transport in the country.
He said the government deliberately lowered tail fares to enable ordinary Nigerians to have access to affordable transportation.
He said the government would proceed with a contract for an Israeli company to provide sophisticated satellite surveillance for pipelines and the nation’s waterways.
He said government was prepared to tackle expected negative reactions from interests who businesses would be affected by the surveillance contract.
He stated that government would link the seaports with various parts of the country.
He also said a rail line would be extended to the proposed Lekki seaport.
