The All Progressives Congress(APC) in Akwa Ibom State appears to have been given an uplift with the entrance of Engr. Larry Esin into the 2023 governorship race in the state.
Esin declared his aspiration to govern the oil rich state in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital city, at the weekend.
Addressing journalists and some APC political stakeholders, the aspirant who hails from the Oro ethnic nationality said he believes in zoning when practised properly.
According to Engr. Esin,”Zoning as it stands now Akwa Ibom state has failed. It was supposed to engender ethnic inclusion but the state is now more divided than before.”
He disclosed that the founding fathers of Akwa Ibom State had agreed on sharing power among ethnic nationalities but later-day political leaders decided on Senatorial Districts,a development that has resulted in great disunity in the state.
Esin pledged to restore the lost hope of citizens and revive ailing sectors of the state economy. The aspirant who averred that governorship is not a white-collar responsibility but a blue-collar job said his government would partner various communities for acelerated and even development of the state.
The Larry Esin-led state government would also build industries to help youths and artisans.
Engr Esin further expressed his commitment to ICT and Tourism development, and Agriculture which will form the front row of his administration.
In a related development, the Chairman of APC Alliance,a grassroots leadership initiative within the party has passed a vote of confidence on the Obong Stephen Ntukekpo- led state executive of the party.
In a statement issued in Uyo, recently, APC Alliance Chairman,Engr. Ime Mbom said the collaborative efforts of stakeholders are needed to win the general elections for the APC in Akwa Ibom State in 2023.
Mbom, the premier Minority Whip in the First Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly dismissed intimations that the executive has concluded plans to impose a recently decamped aspirant from the Peoples Democratic party as the APC governorship candidate.
He said,”the state executive is made up of credible party leaders who will give all aspirants a level playing field. So that report is a mere rumour”.
Mbom urged delegates to “choose a man with capacity like Engr Larry Esin as the APC governorship candidate in the primary election.”
