Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on Monday sacked his Chief Press Secretary, Anietie Ekong, over the photograph of a big Ghana Must Go bag.
The photograph, was taken during the minister’s visit to Gbaramatu, Delta State for a meeting with ex-militabt commander, Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo on Wednesday June 9, 2021.
The photograph went viral as the minister’s critics alk he’d that it contained money used to bribe Tompolo to drop his demand for the setting up of a substantive Niger Delta Development Commission board within seven days.
Tompolo, however, denied being induced to drop the demand after the meeting.
Akpabio was said to have been thoroughly embarrassed at the leaking of the photograph as only the ministry’s media staff members were allowed on the trip.
A statement by Akpabio’s Chief of Staff, Sir Etekamba Umoren, said Ekong had been replaced by one of his subordinates, Mr. Jackson Udom.
