Controversy arose on Thursday after Big Brother Naija 2019 housemate, Tacha, posted a video of her aboard an Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai to Lagos, raising doubts about the closure of Nigeria’s airspace to incoming flights.
The controversy arose after Tacha said in the video that the flight was 10 minutes from landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Her post reads: “So stressful. 10 hours stop in Dubai. 8 hours to Lagos. Anyways, I’m back. Deliberating between sharing hand sanitizers, foodstuff or just sending money.”
Social media became abuzz with speculations that the Federal Government allowed some flights into Nigeria despite the ban on entry since Monday.
It was not clear if Tacha landed eventually as a rumour had it that the flight and another operated by Air France were refused landing.
However, her fans claimed that she landed in Lagos after the aircraft had hovered in the air for one hour.
Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, rushed to Twitter to debunk news that government was still allowing flights into Nigeria.
He stated: “COVID-19.Henceforth only essential cargoes such as Medicines, Medical equipment, Food, Security, Humanitarian supplies and related items will be allowed. Rumours such as BA flight landing Lagos after the ban etc should be disregarded, it is false. This is a patriotic moment!🙏🏽🇳🇬”
