Swedish club sacks Nigerian player for lateness



Former Nigeria U-17 midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali has been reportedly sacked by his Swedish club side Kalmar FF for returning late to the club after Christmas break.

The player who was formerly on the books of English Premier League side, Manchester City is now left without a club on transfer deadline day after his the Swedish club terminated his four-year contract.

Reports say Nwakali who returned to the club last week was sacked after a row with the club over the payment for his flight ticket to return back to the club after coming home for the Christmas break.

The club got angry at his late arrival which saw him miss the team’s preseason training forcing the management of the team to pull the plug on his long-term deal for returning late after the Yuletide break.

Moments after terminating his contract, the management of the Swedish club issued a statement informing that they decided to terminate the remainder of the four-year deal of the player due to his late arrival to the club.

The statement was issued by the clubs Sporting Director, Jorgen Petersson who said that Chidiebere Nwakali broke the provisions of his contract by returning late to the clubs camp after the holidays.

Petersson said; “We follow the usual working days and when you do not follow the work, we did what we should do and won’t comment any further. Through his behavior he has violated parts of his contract which is not okay. He did come for preseason. It was such a gross breach of contract and there are no places to sell him.

“We don’t have to go into it anymore, but there is an order in everything. Through his behavior, he has violated parts of his agreement, which is not okay. He didn’t come to the startup. We keep it that way.

“The deal is broken; he has broken the agreement by not coming here for preseason training. We wish him and his representatives well,” he concluded.

Chidiebere Nwakali demands compensation for termination of his contract

The box-to-box player who came to prominence after impressing with Nigeria’s U17 side at the Cadet World Cup in 2013, and was later snapped up by Manchester City the following year is now reportedly battling not to be left high and dry by his estranged club.

Impeccable sources say Chidiebere Nwakali who only made the bench once before he travelled to Nigeria for holidays and his representatives are set to demand for compensation from the Swedish club over the cancellation of his contract.

Recall that before putting pen to paper for Kalmar FF, the midfielder said he shunned offers from Norway, Greece and Sweden to team up with Magnus Pehrsson’s side.
