Life is so simple and the atmosphere so wide and spacious to accommodate all. Nevertheless, the space by day becomes too small to accommodate all, even when it could.
From the state of nature to this contemplary era, one thing has been the defining characteristics of human beings, which undoubtedly is an uncanny penchant to cheat, swindle and get things cheap and free as much as one can at the expense of the next person.
It has become so wide spread , not engaging in it makes one not only a Jew guy but one that may have unconsciously signed an agreement of partnership with poverty.
Each time I reflect on what goes on in churches, in societies and of course in our various homes( wife, husband , children swindling one another) and offices, losing hope on the possible sanitization of the system to a credible and sane level becomes my only feeling.
It is that bad! . It is that bad that the only thriving routes both in government and in the bussines world are cheat, stealing, uncanny deals etc.
No seeming successful Civil Servant , bussines moguls, Politicians, etc can stand alone with integrity justifying their riches and wealth without the accusing fingers of cheat, stealing etc pointing at them poignantly.
If any Civil Servant knows that he or she has not cheated, stolen government money, swindled etc who lives above their monthly pay, loudly expressed in their cars, houses and the leisure of having their children abroad for studies, let that person be the first to cast stones at me.
This of course will remove ones neck from the noose of the enemies of this country.
The system is in the shape of decay. With the stinch as offensive as it could be, the looting continues unabated. Mindless!! Isn’t that?
That is the situation we find ourselves in , without sounding pessimistic, the end of this madness seems far flung.
The power sector of Nigeria just like other viable sectors of the economy has been in a very bad shape.
Bleeding has been recurrent, with many holes through which many get fattened at the peril of the poor voiceless Masses and of course the stability of the economic growth.
How can the economy grow and be sustained? how can the poor and voiceless majority get their fair share of the social security and infrastructural provision when the GP tanks of government have been perforated with conduit pipes re- channeled to few private pockets?
Talk of estimated billing method, the image of a big GP tanks connected to a continuous flowing water source, sadly with perforated channels to private tanks comes to mind.
Pepetually empty even when the source is continually flowing. What a sad and heart aching irony.
Nigeria is the only country that sees impropriety as improriety but lacks the muscle to stop it. It stares at them , dances before them, swags and brags without anyone daring it not even with a stick to clobber at it.
NIGERIA is also a country where government officials feel more comfortable with illegal sources of revenue generation as against an officially approved sources.More money in their pockets less or nothing in the government coffers.
Nigeria electricity distribution companies ( NERDCs or DISCOs) have been major culprit in this. When people are clamoring for meters, they at their end continue to delay such , leaving the voiceless poor Masses with no option than sticking to the exploitative estimated billing system.
Talk about the estimated electricity billing system in Nigeria one thinks about the GP tank of perforated channels.
The power sector is presently rocked with stains of corruption; fanning the embers of individual finacial fattening while the Masses get frustrated paying for cold and unshining bulbs. Who does that? Who remains comfortable doing such?
Karimo a Search light town in FCT recently refused to pay for unlit bulbs rather elected to be cut off from electricity lines. Running into days the search light town has been in darkness for saying no to a glaring ripeoff. I don’t blame them and nobody will, but why would some estates around that axis with metered system be made victims of such?
Throwing everybody into darkness even when such meters are stuffed with tokens. What does it take to meter every house ? Why make it look like some kind of rocket science, a mission impossible? Recently some Civil Society groups rose up against EEDC( Enugu Electricity Distribution Company) Asking NERC( NIGERIA Electricity Regulatory Commission) to withdraw their licence. What did they do? Removing metres from people’s homes , a ploy to bundle them into an estimated billing, a system that put more money into their private pockets with an unlit bulbs in consumers homes.
Back to the Karimo ( from Reno Oil down to ereke to idu etc) issues the AEDC should do something about it. Sad enough some part of Karimo ( Old Karimo) same estimated billing system have their bulbs unblinking. Same environment with a yawing gap of differenciated service provision.
How painful and frustrating it can be, submerged in darkness while your neighbor across the fance who probably doesn’t know what to do with the surge and brightness of his electric bulbs continues to have light . Same environment , same country but different service rendering.
Why would such Estates be made to suffer from the stand against over bloated estimated billing by Karimo residents who pay but hardly get a justifying service by way of power supply? Are there no ways of making these Estates less victims of this choice of Karimo residents which of course is reasonable?
AEDC should do something about it as soon as possible.
This for me is not a good image of this regime , a regime that has its mantra built on integrity.
Power in this age and time shouldn’t be a luxury rather a necessity that should not be politicized and of course weed of Corruption.
This is a call that needs urgent attention by the AEDC life camp/ Karimo axis. There may be other places in this kind of mess.
GRACE WILL HELP US.
