No fewer than 50 persons escaped death on Saturday afternoon when an interstate passenger bus operated by SD Motors flipped and landed on its side at Olowoto opposite NASFAT campground on the outward Lagos side of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The bus, which heading from Lagos to Kaduna, had 19 men, 20 women, six boys and five girls, according to the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Route Commander Florence Okpe.
The crash, which occurred around 4.38pm, was caused by excessive speed and loss of control.
When our correspondent drove by the scene, he noticed that all the passengers and driver as well as his assistants had been evacuated while FRSC marshals were still on the ground to prevent the looting of their belongings.
The crash occured during a slight rainfall, the first this year in Ogun State.
It is suspected that the bus registered as LAGOS LND411XY may have slid off the road due to loss of contact with the road.
Okpe said that 31 persons comprising 10 men, 14 women, three boys and four girls sustained varying degrees of injury and we’re all taken to FAMOBIS Hospital, Lotto and Lotto Hospital, both in Mowe, Ogun State for medical attention.
