Fresh from his recovery of his heavyweight boxing titles, Nigerian-born Anthony Joshua on Sunday revealed how he beat Andy Ruiz Jr in their soaked rematch.
Both champions threw heavy punches at each other in Saudi Arabia and Joshua eventually carried the day, reclaiming the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation, World Boxing Organisation and International Boxing Organisation titles he lost to Ruiz in June 2019.
Speaking on Twitter, Joshua said: “Strategy & loyalty! I’m not perfect but I’m trying, another defining moment for British boxing. Thank you to all my team, a night we will remember & thank you Ruiz Jr. we made history.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday congratulated Joshua on his victory.
In tweets on his personal handle, the president said: “President @MBuhari thumbs up World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, @anthonyfjoshua, for regaining his belts on Saturday night in a rematch with Mexican, @Andy_destroyer1.
“The President rejoices with Joshua, saluting him for bringing joy to millions of Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora, who had rooted for him to regain the titles he lost about six months ago.
““The downfall of a man is truly not the end of his life. There’s always another, and better day. This is a lesson we must all learn from you as a country,” President @MBuhari tells the comeback world champion.
“He wishes @anthonyfjoshua well as he seeks to bring more glory to Nigeria, and to the boxing profession.”
