The police on Sunday took over Berger Park on the border between Lagos and Ogun states, on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after members of Odua Peoples Congress and National Union of Road Transport Workers clashed.
Our correspondent, who witnessed the bloody flash, reports that he combatants used stones, cudgels,machetes and other dangerous implements in the fight on Sunday afternoon.
The fight was over the control of the park.
Road users fled the area for feat of being hit.
In fact, our correspondent’s car was almost damaged by the hoodlums who also caused a gridlock on the inward Lagos side of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The absence of security agents emboldened the combatants.
However, police in vans and am Armoured Personnel Carrier arrived the scene within 30 minutes and dispersed the fighters.
Calm was swiftly restored to the busy park.
