Kano: Warders arrest woman for smuggling phone into prison

Prison warders at the Kano Medium Security Custodial Centre have arrested a 40 year old woman, Maryam Iliyasu, for allegedly attempting to smuggle a phone into the facility.

Maryam who resides at Gwammaja Quarters Dala Local Government Area of Kano, had a phone concealed in her bag with the intention to deliver it to a Condemned Convict at the centre.

She confessed when she was interrogated by officers, according to a statement by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Kano State Command, DSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nassarawa.

Only last week the men of the service had apprehended a lady who attempted to smuggle hard drugs into the same facility.

Both alleged offenders have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

The Controller of Corrections Kano State Command Magaji Ahmed Abdullah commended the efforts of the men in Intercepting illicit material meant to be smuggled into the facility. According to him such illicit material leads to indiscipline , break down of law and order as well as promote the tendencies for jail break.

Magaji gave the assurance that the leadership of the Nigeria Correctional Service headed by CGC Jafaru Ahmed would not tolerate the trafficking of illicit items into the Custodial Centers across the country and will deal decisively with anyone caught in the act.
