Security agents watched on Saturday as thugs assaulted journalists and election observers and snatched ballot boxes in the Kpgi State governorship and Kogi West Senatorial District elections.

Across the 21 local government areas, thugs and party agents engaged in vote buying, snatching and destruction of ballot boxes,

Hoodlums dressed in police uniform snatched ballot boxes from locations in the state capital, Lokoja, such as Crowder Memorial College, LGEA Secretariat Open Space, NEPA, LGEA Primary School Ganaja, Kabawa Area open Space, Adankolo, Open Space Miami Market and Lokoja Club Close to A Division. of the state police command.

Security agents watched helplessly as the thugs caused mayhem at polling stations despite assurances of provision of adequate security by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakub,

The miscreants also seized smartphones and cameras from journalists to prevent them from recording the violence.

Thugs invaded the polling unit of Senator Dino Melaye, who is facing a rerun in his Kogi West Senatorial District after an appeal court ordered a fresh election.

They arrived Aiyetoro Ward 1 polling unit 004 in two Total Hilux vans and a Honda Civic and snatched a ballot box.

Youths from the area ran after their cars to no avail.

Exit polls indicated that Dino won the polling unit despite the violence.
