Ekiti: Four feared dead as gov’s wife’s police escort fires on students

Four students of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State we’re feared dead and n Tuesday after policemen attached to the Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, opened fire on students of Federal University Oye-Ekiti Ekiti State.

The governor’s wife was on tour of some council areas in the state when her convoy ran into a barricade formed by the protesting students on Ifaki-Ikole-Omuo Road.

The students who were protesting incessant blackouts alleged that a mobile policeman on the convoy opened fire on them from behind a house.

Some reports alleged that a policeman was lynched and three students were shot dead and a patrol van burnt.

Policemen managed to whisk the governor’s wife to safety but a number of vehicles in the convoy were damaged.

Spokesman for the state command, Mr. Caleb Ilechukwu, told Punch that no life was lost.

Policemen later invaded the town in search of students.

They reportedly broke into hostels and arrested students found in the rooms.
