Governors of the 36 states were unable to take a common stand on the proposal for state and local government police to stem the high crime wave in Nigeria.
The governors who met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Friday briefed him on the security situation in their respective states.
They were, however, divided on the proposal as some of them cited the poor financial situation in their states.
The meeting agreed that the issue would be discussed at a meeting of the National Economic Council.
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, confirmed the developments to journalists after the meeting.
