Pope Francis on Thursday kissed the feet of South Sudan’s President Salva Kit, in an unprecedented plea for the bloodletting and fighting in the troubled African country to come to a quick end.

The pope made the gesture at the end of a two-day retreat at the Vatican for the leaders of the Central African nation.

He also prayed for peace in the country.

On the delegation was Vice-President Riek Machar.
