Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari was bogged down by health challenges and would be unable to seek a second term in office.
He told supporters in the state capital, Sokoto, that Buhari’s personal integrity was not enough to secure him re-election.
He said he was under pressure to run for president but would announce his decision soon.
Tambuwal, who recently returned to the Peoples Democratic Party from the All Progressives Congress, said Buhari was being held hostage by a selfish cabal.
"We supported Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 to become president unconditionally. We admit that Buhari has personal integrity but that is not the only requirement for leadership.
"We are aware that the president is besotted by serious challenges of health and is being held captive by a cabal that runs Nigeria for personal interests," he said.
