Chinese women donate N12m equipment to blind home

[FILE PHOTO] Chinese Consul General in Lagos, Chao Xiaoliang presented the itemsAs part of its corporate social responsibility, the Association of Chinese Women in Nigeria has donated equipment, including a generating set, various musical instruments, freezers, stoves, bed sheets and recording pens worth N12 million to the Bethesda Home for the Blind.
Presenting the items, the Consul General of China in Lagos, Chao Xiaoliang, who was represented by his wife, Mao Zhao Xia, said the donation came on the heels of China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action initiated by the Chinese government at the fifth Ministerial Conference of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum in 2012 aimed at supporting and promoting exchanges and cooperation between non-governmental organizations, women and adolescents in China and Africa.
He added that since China realizes that execution of projects are important part of China-Nigeria cooperation and also a bridge for China-Nigeria people friendship exchanges, it was her pleasure to add the donation in addition to 21 other projects that had been executed since the initiative was launched.
Others are donation of medical equipment to Ondo State and Lagos University Teaching Hospital, boreholes to universities in Lagos and Anambra, donation to orphanages and rehabilitation projects of some primary and secondary schools in Lagos.
Director, Bethesda Home for the Blind, Chioma Ohakwe, disclosed that most of the visually impaired persons in the home are orphans who the home has been taking care of. She called on well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the body.
