Civil servants urge President Buhari to sack NHIS boss

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to disengage Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Professor Usman Yusuf.
Stressing that his sack will restore sanity to the scheme, the association argued that his continued stay in office after his earlier suspension by NHIS’s governing council for financial impropriety, was capable of sending wrong signals about government’s corruption fight.
In a statement issued yesterday, Secretary General of ASCSN, Alade Bashir Lawal, noted that the way and manner in which Yusuf bulldozed his way back to office, suggests that those who are close to President Buhari could indulge in all kinds of impunity and get away with it.
The ASCSN noted that Yusuf was suspended last week for alleged financial scams, including carting away of office equipment to his residence and padding of NHIS’s budget.
He also attempted to illegally invest N30 billion in FGN bonds, just as he was accused of placing his relatives in strategic and sensitive positions to enable him siphon funds through questionable contract awards.
