Driver, 30 passengers die in Ogun autocrash

The driver of a Marcopolo bus and about 30 passengers died on Tuesday morning when their vehicle ran into a stationary truck on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Aseese in Ogun State.

The bus was on its way from Enugu to Lagos when the accident occurred around 5am.

Mangled bodies and personal effects of the victims littered the scene of the crash when Metrostarng arrived the scene around 6.30am.

The driver of the bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors was allegedly overspending and defied various warnings by passengers, according to a survivor.

Road safety officials and policemen deployed in the area and moved the bodies away even as they worked hard to clear the gridlock that ensued on both sides of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Soldiers later joined them and were posted at some points between Mowe and Berger to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Hoodlums swooped in the scene of the accident and looted the belongings of victims.

One of the criminals was apprehended by sympathisers and given a thorough testing before being handed over to the police.
