Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu yesterday emerged the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Enugu West senatorial district.
Ekweremadu polled 690 votes to defeat four other aspirants, including; the distant second runner-up, Isaac Omar (84), O. A. U Onyema (61), Uche Onyekwere (22) and (Oscar Egwuonwu (5).
Total votes cast were 873 while 12 were invalid votes.
The senatorial primary election was supervised by the chairman of then electoral panel, Gabriel Ogboko, secretary of the panel, Sen Ndoma Egba, and returning officer, Innocent Ezeoha, who declared Ekweremadu winner.
Ekweremadu thanked the delegates for electing him to fly the flag of the party for the fifth time, saying it shows the confidence they reposed in him.
He, therefore, promised not to disappoint them.
Enugu West senatorial district is made up of Awgu, Aninri, Oji-River, Udi and Ezeagu local government areas.
