Finally, IGP cracks down on SARS

Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris on Thursday took a decisive step against impunity by Special Anti-Robbery Squad officers by unveiling channels and numbers for aggrieved citizens to make complaints.

A police statement reads: “Aggrieved members of the public who have any complaint in the past or present of violation of their rights by any Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) personnel anywhere in the country should report through any of the following channels for investigation and further actions.

There had been complaints about misconduct by SARS officers, including extra-judicial murder, extortion and outright criminality.

This led to the formation of an #EndSARS movement and street protests across many Nigerian cities.
