A female accounts clerk at a sachet water producing company in Sango, Ogun State, Abimbola Hamzat, has been allegedly strangled to death by a male colleague, Abiodun Idowu, for allegedly refusing his sexual advances.
The 40-year-old salesman, who allegedly attempted to rape Abimbola when they were both alone in the factory, tried to kill himself hyberinking poison after realising that he had killed her.
A report was subsequently lodged at the divisional police headquarters in Sango by the owner of the factory, Owolabi Moses, from wherw policemen were detailed to arrest the suspect.
He was taken to a clinic for medical attention and discharged after treatment before the policemen took him into custody.
He was remanded in the custody of the homicide department of the state police command.
Moses told the police that the salesman had been disturbing the victim with love advances for a.long time, according to state command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi.
“Owolabi Moses reported that the suspect, who is a driver in his pure water factory has been disturbing the deceased, who was an accountant in the same factory for love affair of which the deceased has been refusing his advances,” Oyeyemi said.
Oyeyemi told newsmen in the state capital, Abeokuta, that the clerk fought hard to prevent the rape but was overpowered by the assailant.
Oyeyemi said: “Investigation revealed that the suspect having realised that he has committed a serious crime made efforts to kill himself by drinking hypo and izal. The DPO and his men quickly rushed him to a hospital for medical attention where he was treated and discharged before he was taken to our custody.”
The salesman will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigation.
