Two feared dead as violence rocks APC Rivers congress

Two persons were feared dead as violence marred the ward congresses of the All Progressives Congress in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Friday.

Gunshots rent the air as supporters of opposing camps – namely ex-Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Senator Magnus Abe – struggled for influence.

There were complaints that some party leaders changed the rules of the game shortly before the congresses bwgan and decided to adopt consensus instead of election.

Many party members were injured while the state secretariat ib Old GRA was vandalised.

Congress papers were also destroyed and strewn all over the vicinity.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike in a statement by his media aide, Simeon Nwkaudu, consoles with families.of the victims.

He blamed the leaders of the party and the commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state, Me. Akin Fakirede, for the crisis.
