Thugs, rain disrupt Ekiti APC governorship primaries

Thugs and rain disrupted the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress, with none of the 33 aspirants emerging as the clear winner.

The aspirants, who include two former governors of the state – Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Mr. Segun Oni – as well as three former senators alleged that thugs disrupted the process and snatxhed ballot boxes

They also accused the organising committee headed by Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko al-Makura, of allowing ineligible persons to vote.

A heavy rain also sent delegates fleeing from the venue of the primaries.

Some aspirants accused Fayemi of breaching the rules by bringing in 18 observers instead of two.

They also accused security agents of compromising the pricess by telling delegates whom to vote for.

Security agents fired several shots to naibtain order but al-Makura could not stop the rowdiness.

Thugs smashed ballot boxes and scattered the ballots on the ground.

The chairman of the organising committee later met with the 33 aspirants and suspended the primaries indefinitely.
