Twelve persons died and eight were injured when an inter-state commuter bus collided with a Volvo truck near Foursquare Gospel Church campground on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.
The commuter bus driver had tried to overtake vehicles diverted to a single lane by Reynolds Construction Company handling the expansion of the road from Sagamu interchange to Ibadan Tollgate.
The driver miscalculated and crashed into the oncoming truck.
The incident, which occurred around 12.25pm, was confirmed by the spokesman for Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi.
He stated: “The accident led to the deaths of 12 persons while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Among the eight, who were injured, six were passengers on the ill-fated bus, while the remaining two were inside the Volvo truck,” he added.
He said the corpses of the victims had been deposited at a private mortuary at Ipara, while the injured were receiving treatment in a private hospital at Ogunmakin in Ogun State.
