The National Assembly will pass the 2018 Budget on Wednesday May 2, 2018, according to Senator Matthew Uroghide (PDP, Edo Central).
He told Galaxy Television in Abuja that the book would be laid on the table on the said date for passage and thereafter transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into law.
He denied reports that quoted him as having called for the impeachment of Buhari.
In a separate statement, he stated that he stands by his comments during the Senate plenary in Thursday that the 1999 Constitution (as amended) must be respected.
“All appropriations must pass through the National Assembly or we run the risk of uncontrolled spending by the Executive and dictatorship without checks and balances,” he stated.
The senator had made the comments during a debate on the legality of Buhari’s payment of $469 million to the United States without recourse to the National Assembly.
He had said that this amounted to w violation of the Constitution.
