The 2 Division Nigerian Army troops operating in an internal security operation nick named Operation Burst engaged in a shoot out with a gang of six armed robbers in Iwo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Sequel to a distress call from residents of the area in the early hours of today, Troops of Operation Burst exchange fire in a shoot out with the robbers, according to a statement by Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 2 Division Nigerian Army, Col. H. Mohammed.
During the exchange of fire 2 robbers were killed, 3 escaped, while 1 was captured with bullet wounds.
No casualty on own troops. four locally made pistols, a laptop and 9 mobile phones among other items were recovered. Efforts are on to track down the escapee robbers.
Meanwhile in Kogi, troops of Headquarters Command Army Records in conjunction with those on operation TOTAL FREEDOM while on clearance operation at Kpanche, Bereko and Ozugbe villages Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, encountered bandits responsible for terrorising the areas.
Six of the suspected bandits were neutralized during the encounter while others fled following the superior fire power of the troops, according to Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Texas Nwachukwu.
Items recovered include:
a. Two AK 47 rifles with five magazines.
b. 25 rounds of.ammunition.
c. One G3 rifle with one magazine.
d. 188 rounds of ammunition.
e. Two locally made guns.
The fleeing residents have been reassured of their safety and advised them not to panic but report any suspicious activities or movements to the law enforcement agents.
