IGP withdraws VIPs’ police guards

Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on Monday ordered the immediate withdrawal of policemen attached to public office-holders and Very Important Persons.

Speaking at a conference with senior police officers in Abuja, Idris said the sudden withdrawal was due to rising security challenges in the nation

He had recently said that one-third of the 400,000 policemen in the force were attached to guard duties.

He stated that a memo would be forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari to approve the withdrawal of police guards from VIPs.

He advised the affected VIPs to reapply to the Special Protection Unit, which would in turn assess their suitability for such.
