Journalists escape death in Obaseki’s convoy crash

Journalists attached to Government House, Benin, Edo State on Wednesday escaped death when the convoy of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, was involved in a multiple accident.

The crash, which occurred at the gate of University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Ugbowo involved the press crew’s white Toyota Hummer bus, a Toyota Lexus SUV and one other vehicle.

A number of accidents have been recorded at the same spot, which also doubles as a U-turn on the busy Ugbowo-Lagos Road.

Some journalists, a medical doctor as well as a woman and her child were rushed to UBTH with varying degrees of injury, according to witnesses.

The governor, who was on his way back from the commissioning of 11,000 hectares of oil palm extension at Okomu Oil Palm plantation, was not affected.
