49 passengers safe as Dana plane overshoots PH runway

No fewer than 49 passengers escaped death in Tuesday night after a Dana Air plane from Abuja overshot the runway of Port Harcourt International Airport and landed in the bush.
Aviation authorities blamed heavy rains for the mishap.
A day earlier, an April Air flight couldn’t land in Benin because if heavy rains.
It could not be ascertauned if any of the passengers or crew was hurt in the crash landing but the aircraft was partially destroyed.
Additional information obtained by Metrostarng indicated that the aircraft is 27.2 years old and was previously used by Alaska Airlines.
It’s a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft with call sign 5N-SRI and its serial number is 53020 LN:1789
The passengers and crew were also safely evacuated while scheduled Arik and Aero flights were cancelled.
An Air France flight from Paris was diverted to Nurtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Dana had recently been.in the news after an emergency door flew open upon landing in Lagos.
Since the crash of one of its planes in Lagos on June 3, 2012 the airline has been under a cloud of suspicion from Nigerians.
