Kassim Afegbua: IGP never ordered my arrest

Spokesman to former military President Ibrahim Babangida, Prince Kassim Afegbua, on Monday denied reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, ordered his arrest.

Some newspapers and online media had reported that the IGP ordered his arrest over conflicting statements allegedly authored by the former head of state.

The reports curiously cited an unnamed “presidency source.*

Howrver, Afegbua told Metrostarng in an SMS: “Nothing of such. I haven’t been invited and I am presently in Benin City.”

Babangida had in the first statement advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek a second term.

He called for the nation to produce a new set of younger “digital leaders.”

However, the second statement allegedly authored by his son denied the first.

But the former leader told a national newspaper that he indeed authored the first statement.
