Disaster was averted in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State on Friday after a diesel tanker veered off Sagamu-Ore–Benin Expressway and landed on a parked sorghum trailer.
The fully loaded tanker was heading from Lagos to an undisclosed location when it appeared to have suffered brake failure and landed on the trailer.
The truck, which was laden with bags of sorghum headed for an unknown destination, prevented a major disaster as it provided a landing pad for the tanker.
This saved the tanker from somersaulting into nearby residential properties.
Nobody was hurt in the incident but it led to the closure of the Ore-bound side and diversion of traffic.
As at 1pm, no security agent or traffic official was on hand to take charge of the situation.
The tanker was dripping diesel when our correspondent drove past the scene.
