President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday afternoon left for the United States after holding a closed door meeting with Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); Umar Ganduje (Kano); and Ibrahim Shettima (Borno) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Details of the meeting were not made available to State House reporter’s but Metrostarng learnt that they discussed the situation in the country, especially the agitation for restructuring.

Tambuwal is the chairman of the joint committee on restructuring raised by Northern Governors’ and traditional rulers at a meeting in Kaduna on Thursday.

Ganduje and Shettima are also members.

It is believed that they presented their proposal to commence grass roots consultations across the North.

The consultations, which will begin in the second week of October, will culminate in a common position from the North on restructuring.

The decision to set up the committee followed the violemt confrontations between soldiers on Operation Python Dance II and members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra in parts of the South-East.

Meanwhile, one of Buhari’s aides, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the meeting on Twitter.

He said Buhari thereafter departed for the United States to attend the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He is scheduled to address the UNGA on Tuesday.
