Gunmen Attack Catholic Church In Amambra


Gunmen this morning at about 7.30am Sunday, invaded St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Ozubulu, Anambra State killing worshippers during the 7am mass. The casualty figures is put at over several persons and puts to questions the motives of the gunmen who according to sources had gone in search of a rival gang member and couldn’t find him. In frustration oddfor not finding their victim in church opened fire on other worshippers.
A witness as saying after they gained entry, the gunmen identified a particular man whom they shot.
He said the gunmen then went on rampage and “shot at the remaining worshippers numbering”.
The source reportedly said some worshippers who were critically injured died on their way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, the state capital.
Security personnel have cordoned off the church, which has since been deserted by worshippers.
The governor, Chief Willie Obiano with other security chiefs visited the church to ascertain who may have happened and to provide assistance to the victims of the shooting
