Group Hosts Maiden Ogbomoso Spelling Bee Competition

An emerging youth representative platform and social enterprise geared towards the development of youths, The Ogbomoso Lifters, has organised the maiden edition of its annual spelling bee competition for primary school pupils  in Ogbomoso, Oyo state.
The competition, which is aimed at educating and encouraging pupils to perfect the art of spelling, build their confidence level, aid their grammatical expression and knowledge of vocabulary, took place at the prestigious Crystal Spring Hall in the ancient town on Monday, July 24, 2017.
Eleven primary schools across Ogbomoso North local government area attended and participated in the competition. They include Aduke Nursery & Primary School, Comforter Nursery & Primary School, Alex-tee Schools Montessori, and Redeemers Children Academy.
Others were Sabo Baptist Church Nursery & Primary School, LAUTECH Staff School, Christ the Solid Rock Nursery & Primary School, Youth and Young International Creative Academy, Zion Nursery & Primary School, Adebolu Group of Schools, and Zoe Nursery & Primary School.
Twenty-two participants from the schools contested against one another in a thrilling and keenly organised contest, which saw 10 year-old Salawu Mohammed from LAUTECH Staff School emerged as the overall winner of the competition with 70 points, while 12 year-old Sanda-Omi Adeola from Adebolu Group of Schools trailed behind with 65 points to take second position with Oladoye Oladayo from Zion Nursery & Primary School, who garnered 55 points taking third position.
The winner of the competition, Mohammed, went home with a plaque, various text books courtesy of Talking Drum Apartments and Hotel and motivational books courtesy of Alata Milk and Honey.
The first and second runnerups also went home with plaques, text books and other consolation prizes. This is even as seven year-old Jimoh Aminat from Youth & Young International Creative Academy, who made it to the last round was also given a gift by Mr. Benjamin Oyedeji for her prowess.
The event, which was adjudged to be a success by the organisers and participants, was sponsored by a Member of Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ogbomoso North Constituency, Hon. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji and Engr. Adeyi Idowu.
For his part, the National Administrator of the Ogbomoso Lifters, Mr. ‘Seun Ogunbiyi, who appreciated all the sponsors and supporters of the event, expressed satisfaction with the maiden edition of the competition while promising that subsequent editions will be bigger and better as the group hope to expand its scope to the other four local government areas of Ogbomoso land and also host the senior category for secondary schools.
