Northern Nigeria Flour Mills Begins Production Of Sorghum Flour In Kano

Northern Nigeria Flour Mill yesterday in Kano officially commissioned a Sorghum flour production plant which costs over N2 billion.
The chairman, board of directors of the flour mills, Alhaji Aminu Dantata disclosed that the revamped plant situated in Kano would source for sorghum from local farmers, which would culminate into boosting the economy of the state and Northern Nigeria.
The industrialist represented by the vice chairman board of directors of the company,  Alhaji Rabiu Gwarzo  in a welcome address revealed that  local farmers  would be paid handsomely for delivering  the  raw materials request of the plant, assuring that the  locally produced flour is in equivalence with global best practices.
He commended CBN and Kano State Government for steering the successful resuscitation of the plant and introduction of sorghum milling initiative.
The chairman, Flour Mills of Nigeria, John George  Coumatarous  disclosed that the sorghum plant would  facilitate the  employment  of over 50,000 farmers, adding that the flour would boost local content value and processing.
He stated that the  facility  came aboard at a time, when there is  massive call on Nigerians to patronize made -in -Nigeria goods and services, disclosing that the next target is to commence the production of maize and wheat flour by the end of 2017.
The Central Bank of Nigeria said the commissioning of the Sorghum mill is good tidings to the economy, saying the country cannot continue to solely depend on importation of food items.
He lamented that the  massive importation of food products is foreign exchange demanding and poses a negative effect on foreign exchange market and source, stating that mass production of food content locally will decrease the demand for foreign exchange and proceed to create wealth and employments for Nigerians.
The governor of the bank, Godwin Emefiele  was represented  by  his  deputy, Suleiman Barau  said in 2015 Nigeria expended  over 428 billion on importation of  food products , Sorghum and wheat inclusive.
He disclosed that, the apex bank has disbursed over N47 billion in support of programmes that would encourage and enhance local agriculture, adding that 604 projects under the Real Sector Refinancing scheme benefited from the funds so far disbursed.
He hailed the establishment of the Sorghum plant in Kano, stating that the plant was strategically located to the benefit of grain belts, noting that the bank is resolute in rendering  support to farmers who indulge in, Cassava, rice and poultry farming.
