Niger State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has invited former governors and deputy governors as well former ministers from the state to an all important meeting.
Our correspondent gathered that the meeting is scheduled for today and aimed to provide the governor opportunity to interface with the invitees as the governor is poised to consult all segments of key stakeholders in decision taking.
The letter of invitations to the meeting signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Mikail El- Amin Bmitoashi was extended to the two living past civilian governors of the state; Malam Awal Ibrahim, Emir of Suleja who was a governor in the second republic and the immediate past governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu.
Also invited to the meeting were former deputy governors, Dr. Shem Nuhu Zagbayi and the immediate past deputy governor, Hon. Ahmed Musa Ibeto as well as former ministers from the state led by Professor Jerry Gana and Alhaji Abubakar Tanko.
It was learnt that the meeting may be informed by the need to address some critical issues of security, economic dynamics of the state, national issues and others already rearing their heads ahead of the 2019 general election.
Sources said some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members were reluctant to attend the meeting but the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu enjoined them to attend on the ground that the general interest of the state was above any political interest.
A source close to the government hinted that the governor decided to host the meeting because of his commitment to engaging the people widely before taking any decision.
“Mr. Governor believes in consulting widely before taking a major decision and the meeting with all the leaders invited across political parties and segments is one of such meetings, so it is for the good of the state,” the source hinted.
