Technical Manpower Shortage: COREN Approves 5-Year Strategic Plan

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has approved the adoption of the report of the  Stakeholders Meeting on Technical Colleges Workshop it hosted in Abuja on the 5th of May, 2017 and the 5-year strategic plan on Technical Manpower Shortage in Nigeria for immediate implementation.
This was part of the decisions taken at the Council’s 154th Stakeholders Ordinary Session held recently under the chairmanship of COREN president,  Engr Kashim A.  Ali.
Council also considered the report of the Universities Accreditation Visitation to the Engineering programmes of some Nigerian Universities in the 2nd quarter of 2017, where 29 programmes were visited in 8 Universities across the country.  18 programmes got Full Accreditation, 7 programmes had Interim Accreditation while 4 programmes got Failed Accreditation.
According to a statement issued yesterday by COREN’s Registrar, Engr Kamila Malik, Council equally approved the registration of 10 Engineering Consulting Firms, 1098 Engineers, 136 Technologists, 4 Engineering Technicians, 5 Engineering Craftsmen and 11 Expatriates whose capabilities have been adequately tested and found worthy of COREN Registration.
With the demise of M.L Ibrahim Esq, the Council approved the appointment of Ezak Udum Ezak Esq as a Legal Assessor of COREN. He was nominated by the Chief justice of Nigeria, Hon Justice Walter S.N. Omoghen.
