The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC),yesterday gave the Ebonyi State government a clean slate and applauded the administration the State Governor, David Umahi  for his transparency in the execution of projects in the state.
The Commission boss Mr. Ekpo Nta who was in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital for the Anti-corrupt summit organized in the state further stated that  Governor Umahi has in the last 2 years of his administration displayed high level of transparency in execution of projects in the state.
He noted that he has investigated various projects executed by the present administration in the state and discovered that there was transparency in their awards and execution.
“‘I have monitored projects awarded by the Ebonyi state government. At every point of the project inspection, I always demand for the cost so that we can do cost evaluation and each of the Commissioners in the state that accompanied me to the inspection made the costs of the projects available to me”.

”In other places, they will not do this and the whole essence is transparency which we should begin to put in place. This is because, citizens have the right to know what their money is used for”, he said.
He disclosed that National Anti-corruption strategy documents has been
drafted by the graft agency this month which will be domesticated in all the states of the federation to strengthen the fight against corruption.
According to Nta, ”the National anti-corruption strategy seeks to identify and close the existing gaps in the corruption practice, institutionalize results based system and structures,provide/encourage appropriate incentives for increasing and sustaining citizens participation in the fight against corruption.
In his remark, the State Governor, Chief David Umahi commended the ICPC in its approach inthe fight against corruption in the country and urged the commission not to always use media in trying corrupt suspects and to ensure maturity in the war against corruption.
The Governor who was visibly angry with some contractors that executed projects in the last administration used the occasion to hand over some the contractors to the anti-graft agency for allegedly inflating the  projects awarded and also breaching the contracts.
He listed the contracts to include Centenary city, International
Market, Centenary Tower and Callipso and called on the ICPC to probe
Umahi who said corruption cannot be completely eradicated, called for
transparency and accountability by public office holders.
