TY Danjuma Foundation Empowers 50,000, Conducts 15,000 Surgeries In 8 Years


Over 50,000 Nigerians have so far benefited from the T.Y. Danjuma Foundation’s Health Care Initiative, with about 15,000 undergoing different categories of eye surgeries since inception in 2009.
The collaborative partner of the foundation, Care Vision Support Initiative (CAVSI), said this in Jos, the Plateau State capital, shortly after the Eye Camp Programme by the foundation which was concluded in Gassol local government of Taraba State.
The acting executive director of CAVSI, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, in a statement signed and issued in Jos yesterday noted that over 50 children were also not left behind by the T. Y. Danjuma Foundation initiative after undergoing successful cataract surgeries to restore their sights.
He added that, apart from community health initiative services, the foundation has been in the forefront of other vital aspects of human development like income generation and education, all for the well-being of under privileged Nigerians.
CAVSI, a non-governmental organisation based in Jos, has undertaken several philanthropic services on behalf of the foundation since its inception.
In addition to the several surgeries, the statement noted that over 25,000 eye glasses have been distributed to those in dire need of medicated glasses, even as the Taraba eye camp witnessed such free services as well.
According to Dr. Bupwatda, the Taraba outreach saw a total of 1086 registered patients, all attended to, with 103 surgeries conducted out of the total number.
Givng highlights, he said, “82 were operated for cataracts, one for Bilamellar Tarsal Rotation (BTR), 21 Pterygium and a total of 873 medication and 263 recommended for eye glasses for refractive  error correction”.
The acting executive director of the collaborating partner thanked Gen. Theophilous Danjuma for what he described as his “wonderful initiative”, which he said has touched lives positively across the country.
He particularly observed that the T.Y. Danjuma ‎Foundation has been able to provide vision, education and empowerment to the under privileged across Nigeria  and urged all well meaning individuals and groups to emulate this philanthropic gesture of the retired general.
