Nasarawa Govt. gives land to FG to construct housing units in Lafia – Dep.Governor


The Nasarawa state government says it has provided 13 hectres of land with Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to the Federal Government for the construction of 76 housing units in Lafia.

Mr Silas Agara, the state’s Deputy Governor disclosed on Monday in Lafia when he received the Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Alhaji Mustapha Baba-Shehuri on a visit in the area.
He said the government also secured other sites for similar projects in the state.
“We have secured and titled sites in Akwanga and Karu Local Government Areas of the state for the Federal Government to initiate similar projects,’’ he said.
He said the local content design of the project would have multiplier effect on the economy.
According to him, it will help create jobs and bring expertise on Nigerian engineers and other allied professionals in the building industry.
Agara commended the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for the National Housing Programme, which he said was constructing over 3,000 housing units across the country.
He said the partnership between the state government and the Federal Government was aimed at reducing the over 16 million housing deficit in the country.
“Karu is home to majority of the workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the challenges of providing houses require the collaboration between the state and Federal Government’’.
Agara also informed the minister that the C of O for a six hectres Federal Secretariat complex in Lafia was ready for collection.
He assured the minister of the state’s determination to partner with all federal agencies in the state to ensure the success of their activities.
In his remark, the Minister reiterated the present administration’s resolve to provide mass housing for Nigerians in fulfillment of its electioneering campaign promises.
Baba-Shehuri said that government had made adequate provision in the 2017 budget to fund more housing projects across the country.
The minister, who inspected the 76 housing units under construction in Lafia, commended the contractors for the quality work and expressed optimism that they would deliver within stipulated time frame.
“The work is about 70 per cent completed and within the next three months, we should be inaugurating these houses for the benefit of Nigerians,” Baba-Shehuri said.
Ogaba Onazi, the Team Leader of the National Housing Project in the state, told journalists that the 76 housing units consist of One, Two and Three bedroom flats for low and middle income earners. (NAN)
