Nasarawa: AEDC To Sack Staff Over Extortion

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said yesterday that it would sack any of its staff involved in the extortion of money from its customers while discharging their duties in the state. The director of Corporate Service of the AEDC, Engr. Abimbola Ogunbiyi,  made this known in Lafia while answering questions from members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly presided by its speaker, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi.
Ogunbiyi called on the lawmakers and other people of the state to be patient as the company is doing everything humanly possibly to improve on the supply of electricity not only in the state but in the entire country.
“We have listened to all the complaints arising from the people across the state and I want to assure you that we will sack any of our staff found wanting in the discharge of his duties ranging from illegal collection/extortion of money from our customers,” he said.
Earlier, the speaker, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, said that the assembly has decided to summon the management of the AEDC over various petitions and complaints the House had received from its people across the state.
“Our people have complaints over the billing system by the AEDC saying they have been surcharged especially through estimated billing without metre reading which means they been paying for light without enjoying it.
“They have also said it is a global trend that while civilized societies are using prepaid metres, theirs is a sorry state of stagnation.
“It is either your company is benefiting in the process or your staff milking our people dry.
“Another issue is the problem where disconnected houses have been billed at the end of every month which is not supposed to be,” he said.
