FG Restates Commitment To Oral Healthcare


The federal government has restated its commitment to the prevention of oral disease through formulation of enduring polices and creation of conducive environment for healthy lifestyle.
The minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole made this known  yesterday  in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital in his address on  the occasion of the 2017 World Oral Health Day.
He said that he was particularly pleased that the event organised by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) would  increase public awareness on the critical importance of oral health to the overall well-being ofNigerians.
Represented by the chief medical director of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, UUTH, Professor Etette Peters, the ministerexplained that the World Dental Federation see oral health as multi faceted to include ability to speak, smile, smell taste, touch, chew swallow and convey a range of emotions through facial expression with confidence and without pains and discomforts of the disease of the craniofacial complex.
“The theme of this year edition ‘Live Mouth Smart’ is quite apt as there are several ways by which one can live mouth smart and ensure a healthy future’ ‘’One live Mouth Smart when good oral hygiene habits are adopted early in life coupled with regular dental check-ups throughout one’s lifetime,’’ he noted.
