The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), is effectively managing migration related issues in the country with a view to providing solutions and ending illegal migration.
Towards this, it will establish migration focal desks in 36 states of the federation.
The Federal Commissioner, Hajia Sadiat Umar Farouk said the best way to tackling migration related issues is bringing the discourse down to the grassroots and making the people involved and informed.

She spoke in Benin City, during the commission’s two-day sensitization workshop for the South-south geo-political zone on consolidating the migration governance architecture. The theme was”Understanding the social conditions that drives trafficking in persons and migrants smuggling in South-South Nigeria.”
Sadiat said there was the need to sustain and ensure that the National Migration Dialogue (NMD) process takes deep root within the polity of setting the national development agenda.
Sadiat said there was the need to integrate the state and local council structures as well as the civil society organizations in the migration governance architecture. Towards this, she said it has become imperative to continuously mobilize the states and local councils as well as CSOs through a decentralized process and consolidate the channels of communication with the migration focal points for each of the 36 states.
“What this project truly hopes to achieve is the institutionalization of Migration Focal Desks in the 36 states of the federation to be coordinated by the commission’s zonal offices. This will enable us have a bottom approach in the migration governance structure,’’ Sadiat said.
