Various groups across the world are seeking to achieve a work-free day for women on Wednesday March 8, 2017 to mark the International Women’s Day.
The one-day strike is expected to press home the disadvantages suffered by women in the workplace.
It also seeks to show that women are powerful and a vital force in the world’s productive system.
It also seeks to highlight challenges faced by women such as economic inequality, social injustice, reproductive rights, civil liberties and violence.
They are also urging women to wear red and have asked men to support the cause as a way of showing love to their spouses and partners.
