The Labpur Party on Tuesday kicked against the defection of its lone senator, Ovie Omo-Agege representing Delta Central to the All Progressives Congress.
Omo-Agege swelled the ranks of APC senators to 66 by citing leadership crisis in the LP. He became a senator on the heels of the removal of Ighoyota Amori of PDP by the courts.
Omo-Agege is a former Secretary to Delta State Government.
However, LP’s Publicity Secretary, Ebere Ekendu, told journalists at a press conference in Abuja thet the senator tried to create an “artificial crisis” by sponsoring a fake faction to justify his defection.
She said the party had remained united and there was no factionalisation in its ranks.
She advised Omo-Agege to vacate his seat as his action violates the Electoral Law and the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
She said the party would go to court to ensure that the senator vacates his seat.
