Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is on his way to attaining a PhD after he was seen defending his thesis before a panel of assessors of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) on Thursday December 7, 2017 in Abuja.
Obasanjo is pictured with a laptop and a printed document defending the thesis.
He is expected ti become the second Nigerian former leader to have attained a doctoral degree after Gen. Yakubu Gowon.
Though the topic of Obasanjo’s dissertation was not disclosed, it is believed to be centered around Christian theology.
Obasanjo, who revived NOUN as civilian president, enrolled in NOUN in 2014 to do a Master’s in Theology after obtaining a Postgraduate diploma in 2009.
Justifying his enrolment in NOUN, he had told journalists some years ago: “I always aspire to something new in my farm. I do that in my international activities. I do it in my writing. I do it in the improvement of my academic work which helps to sharpen my brain and strengthen my faith.”
