Herdsmen attacks: Benue people will fight back – Ortom

Benue State Govetnor, Samuel O re Tom, on Tuesday urged the people of the state to fight back if attacked by Fulani herdsmen.

Ortom, who spoke on a radio programme, said it was unfortunate that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, blamed the state’s anti-grazing law for the New Year Day herdsmen attacks on Benue communities that claimed 73 lives.

Hi e said: “I think the people should have the right to defend themselves and not to make themselves easy preys to be killed in their homes.

“So any lawful means you can adopt to defend yourself, just go ahead in Benue State. We are not going to wait for the Inspector-General of Police to do it.”

He expressed sadness at the incessant blood-lwtting in the state and sent condolences to the families of the deceased.
